FAQ & Directions

Am I required to choose a caterer from an approved list?
Carnegie does not require you to choose from an approved list; however, a list of Washington-area caterers familiar with our facility is available upon request.  The catering company must be licensed and insured, and will be required to sign a contract including our list of requirements.  If you would like to work with a caterer we are not familiar with, we may require 3 written references in order to approve them.

What is your capacity for a reception?
Our venue can accommodate 400 guests for a standing reception, 150 guests for a seated reception with dancing, and 250 guests for a seated dinner without dancing.  Please note, the capacities may change depending on the chair you use, or the set-up involved for your event.

What do rental fees include?
The rental fee provides you with an 8-hour block of time.  Also included in the rental fee is the use of 150 banquet chairs and tables of various shapes and sizes.  An facility coordinator, a building engineer, and a security guard(s) are on-site during the entirety of your contracted time.

Is there parking for guests and vendors on-site?
Street parking is available in the local neighborhood, however quite limited.  A Colonial Parking garage is located at 1616 P Street (located a block down from the venue.) During weekend events, 6 Carnegie parking spaces are allocated for your vendors.  On weekdays, 6 spaces are available after 5pm.

Do you have chairs and tables available?
Carnegie will provide (17) 5’ and (10) 6’ round tables, (6) of the 5’, 6’, and 8’ rectangular tables, and 150 ballroom chairs at no extra charge (all set up is to be done by Client or Client’s Caterer).

Are there food and beverage restrictions, such as red wine?
We have no restrictions on food or drink.

What time must the event end?
Events must conclude no later than 11:00pm Sunday – Thursday; and 12:00am on Friday and Saturday.

Does Carnegie charge a surcharge to caterers or any other outside vendors hired for the use of your space?
No, there is no vendor surcharge.

What is the closest metro stop?
The Red Line/Dupont Circle station is the closet metro stop.  Use the "Dupont Circle South" exit (19th and Connecticut). On reaching the surface, turn to face Dupont Circle, and proceed around the circle to the right, crossing both Connecticut and Massachusetts Avenues.  The third intersection around the circle is P Street.  Proceed to the right down P Street, where you will immediately cross 18th Street, and simply proceed 2 more blocks to 16th Street.

The nearest parking garage is located one block away at 1616 P st NW Washington DC 20005. (Lot #372). If you have any questions, you may contact Colonial Parking directly at 202-295-8200.
